December 2005, Invitation-only request to participate in the Biennale Internazionale dell'Arte Contemporanea (2005 International Contemporary Art Biennial) in Florence, Italy. The selection jury is made up of international art historians and art critics who select 1,000 artists from across the globe to participate in this juried invitational contemporary art exhibition. During the 2003 Biennale, 891 artists from 72 countries participated. The Florence Biennale takes place within the walls of La Fortessa da Basso, the historic Medici bastallion, constructed in 1534 at the request of the Duke Alessandro de'Medici. The Biennale is an official participant in the United Nation's "Dialogue Among Civilizations. Professor John T. Spike, Critic and Art Historian, N.Y., is Director of the Biennale and serves on the international jury. Professor Spike has lectured in museums which include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, N.Y.; The National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; The Musee du Louvres, Paris; The Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart. He has authored more than twenty books and published major monographs on artist's including Caravagio (2001). He has attracted such emminent critics as Dore Ashton, Art History Professor, Cooper Union, New York; Professor Matty Roca, Critic and Art Historian, Mexico; Professor Veronica Birke, Vicedirector of the Graphische Sammlung Albertina, Vienna, Austria; Professor Barbara Rose, Art Historian and Critic, Rome, New York,; Professor Kevin Powers, Vice-
director of Museo Nacional Reina Sofia, Madrid, Spain; Dr. Stefano Francolini, Art Historian, Director of Restoration Department, Opificio delle Pietre Dure, Florence, Italy; to name several.
